Empower Her Housing
Welcome to Empower Her Housing—formerly known as Transitions. We’ve refreshed our name to better reflect the heart of our mission: empowering women on their journey from homelessness to independence. Our supportive housing program at YWCA Jamestown continues to provide safe, affordable, service-enriched housing for women and children in Chautauqua County.
Who We Are:
At Empower Her Housing, we know that homelessness can stem from many causes—domestic violence, eviction, loss of income, or post-incarceration, to name a few. We are here to walk beside each woman through her transition, offering safety, stability, and the support needed to reclaim independence.
We welcome:
-
Women 18 and older
-
Pregnant teens 18+
-
Women with or without children
-
Non-custodial mothers
-
Boys up to age 12
What We Offer:
Empower Her Housing is the only communal supportive housing program in Chautauqua County. We provide space for up to 14 women and their children. Women share living spaces, but also build powerful, healing relationships—with each other and with our staff.
-
Case Management
Every resident is paired with a dedicated case manager who works alongside them to create personal goals, build stability, and access the resources needed to thrive. Case managers support residents in navigating housing, healthcare, education, parenting, domestic violence, crisis intervention, safety planning and more.
-
Education & Employment Support
Residents are encouraged and supported in reaching their educational and career goals.
We assist with:
-
Enrolling in GED or higher education programs
-
Job readiness training
-
Résumé building and interview preparation
-
Finding and maintaining employment
-
Budgeting & Financial Literacy
Our workshops and one-on-one coaching help residents develop money management skills, including:
-
Budgeting basics
-
Smart shopping tips
-
Planning for rent and savings
-
Understanding credit and banking
Referrals & Follow-up
We work closely with community agencies and organizations to connect residents with external support services, such as mental health counseling, addiction recovery, healthcare, care coordination and navigation, and housing opportunities.
A Community That Empowers
At Empower Her Housing, healing and growth happen in a community setting. Shared living spaces create opportunities for connection and support among women who understand each other’s experiences. This network—along with caring, experienced staff—lays the foundation for a new start.
ning. Everything we do is aimed at helping women and families achieve healthy, independent living.

Empower Her Housing gives more than a roof over our guests' heads. It gives our guests hope—and a second chance.
This vital program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance. With their help, we continue to provide a safe place where women and children can rise, heal, and thrive.
