A bit about me
I am the Director of Social Justice and Racial Equity at YWCA Jamestown where I utilize my expertise to build and implement programs that foster meaningful conversations about social justice issues with people of all ages. I am also an adjunct professor at SUNY JCC where I link relevant historical context to current contemporary issues in an Introduction to Sociology course and an inquiry course titled The Black Experience. Coming from a multicultural and multiracial family, I have always been sensitive to and passionate about issues that affect various communities. Building upon my familial knowledge, I earned a BA in Communication and Sociology in 2019 and a Master’s in American Studies with a concentration in African American Studies in 2022. I aspire to use my personal experience and educational background to actively work towards creating a better society and striving for the common good for all. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and learning to play the electric guitar.
A bit about me
As the Mission Impact Director at YWCA Jamestown, I work to ensure that YWCA’s mission is present in all that we do. I enjoy being a resource for the promotion of equity, inclusion, and social justice throughout YWCA programs and partner organizations. I value learning and teaching, and believe that while in the pursuit for self-actualization, a person must become self-aware of their biases, values, and be open to learning continuously throughout their lives.
During my time working in the community and in healthcare, I recognized many of the barriers and challenges that are embedded in our systems. The realization that education is just as crucial and beneficial to the community as advocacy has reinforced my philosophy. Education is activism and every and anyone deserves to be treated fairly and equitably.
I am proud to have received my formal education from wonderful regional institutions including the University at Buffalo and Canisius College. As a Dunkirk native currently in Jamestown, NY, I am honored to work in our community and hope to continue our path towards equity.
